The trend-making song of famous Tamil actor Dhanush, “Why this kolaveri di..” has reached 3 million views(30 lakh) in just 8 days on youtube made it the top rated and viewed Indian movie song on youtube.com in its history.

No wonder why this amazingly simple ‘bathroom song’ has found its place on WikiPedia in just a week of its release.

This song, written and sung by Dhanush, the son-in-law of the mega star actor Rajnikanth is now the ringtone and caller tunes of millions of people in India, including me. But why this is so popular ? I’d say it’s the lyrics that made it popular among youngsters and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter contributed its best to spread in less time. The lyrics which is what we can call Tanglish ( Mix of Tamil and English ).

The raw version of this song was leaked by a ‘well wisher’ of its makers. The song makers came up with a better version of the song with a “making-of” video when they found its growing popularity.

“The video, which shows Dhanush recording the song in a studio along with his wife Aishwarya, actor Shruti Haasan and debutant music director Anirudh Ravichander, has become a rage in not just India but also Australia and the Americas for its catchy tune, traditional Tamil percussion and amusing lyrical style. “I just tried to put in some dummy words in the tunes and everyone liked it,” Dhanush had said in an interview.”

The song is on top with 45,484 “likes” and millions of shares on Facebook and Twitter. The word Kolaveri, meaning ‘killer rage’, is also topping search engine requests. Upon release, the hashtag #kolaveri topped the Indian trends in Twitter on the evening of 21 November 2011. According to Wikipedia, the song is also a hit among non-Tamilians as well due to the lyrics, which is Tanglish ( Mix of Tamil and English ). The song stood third in the global music list giving a tough time to Lady Gaga.
